Memorial Day

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scare heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
-Lt. Col. John McCrae (1872-1918)

These pictures were taken at a 9/11 tribute in NYC, but I think the sentiments extend to Memorial Day as well.

The national moment of remembrance takes place at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. I hope we all take the time to remember those who have fallen.
And thank you to all of you who have bravely fought for freedom under the stars and stripes of the USA.
